Yes, You Can Ministry

"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." – Philippians 4:13

The Choices We Make!

“Then the Lord sent Nathan to David…I also gave you your master’s house, and your master’s wives into your care, and I gave you the house of Israel and Judah; and if that had been too little I would have added many more things like these…Then David said to Nathan, ’I have sinned against the Lord’, and Nathan said to David, ‘The Lord has taken away your sin, you shall not die.’ However, because of this deed you have done has given occasion to the enemies of the Lord to blaspheme, the child also that is born to you shall die.” (II Samuel 12:1-14)

The Lord sent the Prophet Nathan to King David to confront him for his sin with Bathsheba. Many times the calling of God is not easy, in fact there may be times when you would rather do anything except what God commands you, but for anyone following God’s plan there is no alternative. God’s will is top priority in your life!

Jesus gave the example of this in the Garden of Gethsemane the night before His crucifixion, “And He went a little beyond them, and fell on His face and prayed saying, ‘My Father, if it is possible let this cup pass from Me, yet not as I will but as Thou wilt.’” (Matthew 26:39) Jesus knew what lay ahead for Him, and He desired to forego the cross, but as any Christian must learn there is a time when we must say to God, “Not as I will, but as Thou wilt.” Because His plans are always better than ours (Jeremiah 29:11), and while it may hurt a little now it will always turn out for the best! (Romans 8:28)

The Lord had blessed David with deliverance and triumph over his enemies. He had given David the nation of Israel to rule (this was before the split Kingdom), and He had given David complete and total command over what had once belonged to those who sought his life. David, however; was a human being, and He was a never satisfied with what he had; but always wanted more.

There was a song that came out several years ago that had a line in it that truly decries of the human condition, “I d rather fight you for something I don’t want; than take what You give that I need.” God had given David everything that he needed, even more! But one day David saw a beautiful woman that he had to have, and I think you may know the rest of the story. But, I’ll give a brief synopsis just in case; King David slept with the wife of one of his generals, and she became pregnant. It was for this reason that Nathan condemned him with the charge of God. God condemned his action by saying look at what all I have given you! Everything that you could have ever wanted I have given you; I have even given you what you did not want or need, and you repay Me by committing this abominable act. Well, there are going to be consequences; I will spare your life, but I do require a life for the life you took by killing Uriah; so I am taking the life of the unborn child that came from your adultery.

This may seem harsh and unfair to you (to tell you the truth it seems unfair to me too), but God is a righteous God and He demands payment for our sin. The Bible says that that, “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23), and again it says, “the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 6:23)

No matter your situation if you are a Christian you can look at your life and see ways that God has blessed you far beyond what you deserve. How do you repay His faithfulness? Are you like David; always looking for something better. (As if you can find something better.) Or are you content with what God gives, and can you say in your heart, “Thy will be done.”
