The Blessings of Tribulation
Romans 51 Therefore, having been justified by faith we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2.through whom also we have obtained our introduction by faith into this grace in which we stand ; and we exult in hope of the glory of God 3.And not only this, but we also exult in our tribulations, knowing that tribulation brings about perseverance ; 4.and perseverance, proven character ; and proven character, hope ; 5.and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.To put it plainly there is no way in the world that we can be, but there are a lot of ways that you can be blessed by Jesus Christ in your troubles. In fact, if you are having troubles and you turn to God then the only result will be a blessing.
Now I’m not saying that you’re troubles will disappear. In fact they may get worse, and you may not see the blessing at first. As humans we have a tendency to concentrate on the negative, and ignore the positive. If that’s the boat that you’re in don’t feel bad because you’re not alone.
When I think about the negative trials that have happened to me over the years I could really get discouraged, but if I concentrate on the blessings of Jesus I feel alive. I compare this to Peter and his water walk. As long as he concentrated on Jesus he did good, but when he took his eyes off Jesus; and started looking at his troubles he sank like a rock.
I know what you’re thinking. Great, Steve you’ve told us what to do, and who to focus on when we’re going through troubles; but when are the blessings coming. Just hold on. I had to lay a solid foundation before I could build on it.
Tribulation, trials, trouble, problems, etc. are no fun for anyone I don’t care who you are or how Spiritual you are. If you break a leg it hurts, PERIOD!!!! And the cast itches, and it’s no fun having to walk around on crutches, but if you do what I mentioned earlier then God will shower you with blessings.
It might be that you’re friends want to go skating or dancing or whatever. Something that you obviously cannot do on crutches, so you get to stay at home on a Saturday night and read God’s Word, or someone you meet might ask you a question about your situation and you have the opportunity to share with them your faith in the Lord Jesus.
There is an old saying, “Every cloud has a silver lining.”. That saying is so true, but sometimes we must look for that lining instead of being swallowed up by self pity.
It is at these times when our focus is most important, and when we keep our focus on Him then we will see these blessings more clearly.
