Yes, You Can Ministry

"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." – Philippians 4:13

The Secret to Happiness

Luke 22:42, “Father, if Thou art willing, remove this cup from Me; yet not My will, but Thine be done.”

To see about this let’s look at two lives and compare them to see what we can discover. Howard Hughes was one of the richest men who ever lived. A few years ago there was a movie made out of his life story. Howard Hughes had billions of dollars; he could get anything he wanted; he built planes that were so big and extravagant that it could not fly because of the excess weight. It was no more than a showpiece for the world to see. Everyone would assume that this man who had so much at his fingertips would be extremely content; that sounds about right, but everyone who assumed this would be wrong. Their have not been very many more pitiful lives than that of Howard Hughes. Hughes spent the last 10-15 years of his life in total isolation; cut off from the rest of the world. He died in total isolation with only a few friends mourning him.

On the other hand we have Mother Theresa. Mother Theresa lived her life in abject poverty; she lived and worked in the ghettos and slums of Calcutta, India. She knew that her life was not about what she could get, but it was more about what she could give. On her death in Calcutta the entire world mourned because we knew in our hearts that we had lost a great woman of God.

Mother Theresa and countless others knew that the only way to find true happiness is to give yourself to something bigger than yourself. Happiness that will last for eternity is not measured by how many people you have serving you, but by how many people you have served.

Happiness is not about doing your thing, and alwayss’ getting what you want, but it’s about doing what God wants, and always seeking His will in all that we do.

King Solomon also discussed happines in Ecclesiastes. He said that everything man can do and has done is futile, worthless. Only the things that we do for the Lord will last; money will fail, riches will fade, but what we do for God will never go away, nor be forgotten. Therefore, we should always strive to seek after God’s will.

In his letter to the church at Ephesus the Apostle Paul reminded that we should “walk no longer just as the Gentiles also walk, in the futility of their mind.”(Ephesians 4:17) There is nothing that we can do or make or earn that will ever satisfy us apart from what we do for God. Jesus said in Matthew 6:33, “But seek first His kingdom, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added to you.” We can only find happiness in God apart from Him we will always be miserable.

Father, I thanl You for the true happiness that comes from You, and I ask that You always keep me near Your happiness. In Jesus’ name. Amen
