Yes, You Can Ministry

"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." – Philippians 4:13

Who are You?

“And God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM. “and He said, “Thus you shall say to the sons of Israel, I AM has sent me to you”.-Exodus 3:14

Years ago in Sunday school the question was asked, What did God mean when He said tell them I AM has sent you.” There is no name given here. God did not say tell them that Yahweh or the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob sent me. No God only told Moses to tell them that I AM has sent me.  What if they didn’t understand?

When my Sunday school teacher asked our class the question, what did God mean by that everyone scratched their heads and thought. After a few minutes; I answered. I have a BIG MOUTH; I think I would’ve gotten along real good with Peter because I always like to talk. Anyway, I said God told them that because that’s the best way to describe Him. I AM fill in the blank. Whatever we need HE IS.

When Adam was created, God breathed the breath of life into Him. (Genesis 2:7) When Adam and Eve disobeyed, He provided for them.  (Genesis 3:21) When Cain was cursed because he killed his brother Abel God still protected him. (Genesis 4:15) God has been, and always will be everything that we need.

In John chapter 8 the Jewish leaders were asking Jesus who He thought He was. Jesus answered them in verse 58 He said, “…Truly, I say to you, before Abraham was born, I am.” The Jews understood then that Jesus was claiming to be God; Jesus had just told them that He predated the Abrahamic covenant. He had said that He was come to earth to establish a new covenant with man.

I want to look at a few I AM statements of Jesus to help us understand that He IS all we need. In John chapter 4 the woman from Samaria came to Jacob’s well while Jesus was there, and He told her that He could give her living water to satisfy her, and she would never again thirst.

In John chapter 6 Jesus told the Pharisees that He was the bread from heaven (sent by God), and no one who ate His bread would ever hunger again. He said to the people listening that He and only He could provide the food that will sustain us in a famine. He also told them in verse 35 like he told the woman that He was the living water that will forever quench our thirst.

In John chapter 10 He tells us the parable of the good shepherd. He tells us that His sheep will listen to His voice, and that He will lead them to safety. However, He warns us that if we choose to listen to the voice of Satan, and follow him, then the result will be death. (John 10:10) John chapter 14 tells us about Thomas, and the question he asked of Jesus. Jesus was preparing the disciples for His death, and Thomas asked, “…Lord, we do not know where you are going, how do we know the way? Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.” (John 14:5-6) In one statement Jesus told Him what He had been telling the disciples for 3 ½ years follow Me, and I will take you home. He also said that He was the only true path to God, even though many people had and still do claim another path it is all a lie, He was and is the truth. He also said in that statement that we cannot have life, in this world or in heaven with the Father, without Him.

Father, I thank for being I AM. You are all that I needed or will ever need I ask that You would always help me to remember that I am made complete in You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
