May the force be with you!
Isaiah41:10 “Do not fear; for I am with you: do not anxiously look about you; for I am your God: surely I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
I am a proud child of the 80’s! I was a teenager in the 1980’s, and it was a great time to be a kid. We had the best music, best movies and the best hair styles ever. Well the best movies and music, 2 out of 3 isn’t bad. If anybody ever gets a mullet again they should be locked away, Ha, Ha.
Over the past few years several of the movies from the 80’s have been remade, even some of the bad ones. One of the most iconic movie trilogies from the early 80’s was Star Wars. When Star Wars came out every young boy wanted to be Luke Skywalker with his light saber or Han Solo flying the Millennium Falcon, and all the young girls wanted to be Princess Leah with the buns on the side of her head. Everybody walked around telling each other, “May the force be with you.” It was a cool thing to do, if you were a kid.
However, now that I and the rest of the Star Wars generation have grown up I no longer want the force that they talked about to be with me, but I want the Lord to be with me always; and He is! He has promised to never leave us nor forsake us. God sent His only Son to us, so that we would never be alone. Jesus, God’s Son, came to this earth, and died on a cruel Roman cross, so that we would never be without Him. I know that sounds like an oxymoron that Jesus died, but He is always with us, but listen to the words of Jesus, “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations,…and lo, I am with you always even to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:19-20)
Jesus is always with us! I know there are many times in our life when we don’t feel like He is. The doctor tells you that you have inoperable cancer, or your spouse leaves you; or even worse still, you’re child gets killed. When situations like this come up you feel like shaking your fist at the heavens, and crying out, “Where are You, God?” God is seated on His throne weeping with you, and you hear the answer in a still, small voice; “I love you My Child I know the pain and agony that you are going through, but I am here to bring you comfort.” By the way that’s where He was when your problems came, and that’s where He was when His Son was crucified; that’s where He will be forever.
So now, at age 39 I still want the force to be with me, but I now know that I want that force to come from God because when we have His force then there is no problem that we cannot overcome!
Father, I thank You for giving the power of Your Son to see me through hard times, and Lord I ask that when the hard times come You would help me to remember all of the hard times in my past that You have brought me through. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
