All these things!
“But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” Matthew 6:33
There are a lot of things in this world that make us forget this verse. We have problems that enter our lives, and we don’t understand then without even knowing it we put our problems ahead of our relationship with God, and it should not be so. I understand why we do this, and I am as guilty as anyone about putting my needs first, but if you are even slightly sensitive to the Spirit of God then you will feel Him calling you back when you drift away.
God will call you in His still, small voice; and let you know that you are not where you once were or should be. You may have a situation arise in your life that you do not know how to deal with, and through your searching for the answer you are brought back to the God of this world who can give you the answer to any problem you may face.
When I read this verse my mind automatically returns to an old movie that I once watched. While in college I took a course on the Holocaust, the Nazi’s attempt to terminate the Jewish people during World War II. The movie was “The Hiding Place” there is also a book of the same name written by Corrie Ten Boom. I highly recommend both of them!
Corrie Ten Boom, her sister Betsie and their father operated a clock shop in Holland during WW II, and when the Nazi regime started rounding up Jews to go into concentration camps the Ten Boom family opened their house/shop as a place of refuge. Eventually, however the family was discovered, and they were also taken to a Concentration Camp.
At one scene in the movie as Corrie and Betsie were being processed to go in the camp they were smuggling in a Bible. They truly understood this verse, and they were seeking God’s kingdom; even at the risk of their lives. No outside materials were allowed in the camps, and the Nazi who was in charge was frisking everyone as they entered. As it was Corrie’s turn to be frisked there was a commotion, and Corrie walked right past the guard without being frisked. That was a miracle of God that allowed Corrie to get the Bible in the camp!!!!!!!!
Corrie and Betsie used that Bible to show others in the camp the grace of God, and it also allowed them to stay strong in their relationship with God and keep them safe and content in the face of many dangers. Betsie eventually died in prison, but Corrie was released from the camp when the Allies freed Holland.
Corrie then became a world-wide evangelist, and eventually she purchased Ravensbruck Concentration Camp, where she was held. After she fixed it up, she turned it into a home for people who had suffered at the hands of the Nazi’s. Corrie went to be with the Lord where she undoubtedly heard the words that all Christians long to hear, “Well done, my good and faithful servant.”
My heart just cannot help but leap for joy as I think about this story. The Ten Boom family truly understood, and lived this verse because they sought Jesus in everything that they did, and even though Betsie and Papa Ten Boom died in the camps they were rewarded in Heaven more than we can imagine.
If and when you get discouraged and downhearted I pray that you think about the Ten Boom’s, but more importantly I hope you remember the promise that Jesus made; the promise that He will give us our heart’s desire when we seek Him. Its funny how when we seek Him that our desires begin to look like His desires.

Father, I thank You for promising me that You will give me an abundance if I only seek after You, and I ask that You would give me the strength and the courage to stay close to You when everything around me seems to be falling apart. In Jesus’ name, Amen
