It’s a slow fade.
“Then the woman said, ‘Whom shall I bring up for you?’ And he (Saul) said, ‘Bring up Samuel for me’”. I Corinthians 28:15
Saul, the king of Israel, had thrown all the mediums and spiritists out of the land of Israel after the death of the prophet Samuel. He knew, and heeded the words of the prophet in the grief of his death, but when Saul was faced with a difficult situation he reverted back to his old ways. King Saul was not a bad guy; in fact many times during his reign he sought the will of God, but now he was without his prophet Samuel, and he thought the Lord had abandoned him. The first thought that came to his mind was that he needed to talk to/seek advice from Samuel about what to do, so he searched for a medium (witch) that he had just kicked out and he asked her to call up the ghost of Samuel.
It’s interesting to note that Saul knew that the witch would not have the answer that he needed, but he thought that he could use her to find the answer that he was searching for. That still happens a lot today; good minded/good intentioned people go to psychics, palm readers, etc. when they are seeking a word from the Lord. They understand and know that these people do not have the answers they want, but they are trying to use them as a guide into the realm of the supernatural. Many people still today feel as if they need a “supernatural” guide in order to receive a word from the Lord, and while it is a good idea to seek Godly counsel from a Christian friend or Pastor, it is not necessary for us to seek advice from anyone other than the Lord. Jeremiah 33:3 says, “Call to me, and I will answer you, and I will show you great and mighty things which you do not know.” As children of God all that we must do in order to find the will of God is call on His Name. God reminds us in Proverbs 8:17, “I love those who love Me. And those who diligently seek Me will find Me.”
I love the imagery of the veil in front of the Holy of Holies being torn in two at the death of Jesus because it signifies that we now have direct access into the presence of God through the sacrifice of Jesus. That which Saul considered to be unattainable is now attainable to us all through the blood of Christ, and while seeking Godly counsel and confirmation is a wise thing it is not essential.
Even “playing with” the demonic forces such as Spirits, Mediums, and even Ouija boards can lead us far from God, and down a path that we do not want to travel.

Father, I thank You for giving me access to Your wisdom through the blood of Christ, and Your Holy Spirit, and I ask that You would protect my heart against all evil spirits that come aganst me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
