Feast or Famine
“Whether, then, you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all for the glory of God.” I Corinthians 10:31
Today, we live in a “feast or famine” society. If you watch sports like I do then you know what that means. The sports announcers talk about certain players either “feasting or fasting”; meaning that some days they play like a superstar athlete doing amazing things, and then other days they can’t do anything right.
That kind of philosophy has permeated our way of thinking. I admit that I occasionally think like that. There are days when I feel like I’m on top of the world, and then there are some days when I don’t think I am of any use to anybody.
The Apostle Paul reminds us in this verse that we should do everything for God’s glory. When you and I keep the mindset that everything we do is not to please other people, or even satisfy our own desires then we will never have another famine, but we will constantly be living in the “feast” of God’s presence.
Think about Moses. Here is a man that felt like he was totally worthless; he felt as if he was of no use to anyone. When God called him to the mission of bringing the Israelites out of slavery Moses said to God, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh, and that I should bring the sons of Israel out of the land of Egypt?” (Exodus 3:11) Moses was living in a state of his “famine” instead of seeing the “feast” of God. As we see later in Exodus 4:10 Moses was contemplating his limitations instead of concentrating on the limitless powers of God.
Today we keep this mindset going on as we hear the voice of God calling to us. We say like Moses said, Who am I to bring Your sons and daughters out of the land of slavery to sin, and just like God told Moses; God is telling you that He is going to bring His children out of slavery. You cannot do it by yourself. You cannot split open the Red Sea of sin that separates His children from His glory, but He can; and He has through the blood of Jesus Christ!
God is calling you to see if you will be faithful to simply guide His beloved in the direction that they should follow. God has issued the call this day, and every day. He is simply waiting for us to answer, “… Here am I Lord, send me!” (Isaiah 6:8)

Father, I thank You for providing Your limitless splendor to me, and I ask that You give me the wisdom to not only come myself, but to bring others home to You for the feast that You have prepared. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
