Yes, You Can Ministry

"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." – Philippians 4:13

Who are you?

“And God said to Moses, ‘I AM WHO I AM’; and He said thus you shall say to the sons of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.’” Exodus 3:14

Moses was uncertain about his calling not only because of his own fears and doubts, but also because he lacked self confidence and doubted that anyone else would believe that he was sent by God. He saw his own weaknesses, and in his eyes these were magnified. He thought to himself , Would anybody ever believe that God would use an insignificant, nobody like me to carry out His plan? I must confess that I have had thoughts like Moses had here. My own weaknesses and failures were/are so evident to me that I’ve doubted whether anyone would ever listen to me.

But God reassured Moses that He was with him, and He told Moses to tell the Israelites that I AM had sent him. That may seem like a rather insignificant way for God to prove that Moses was His messenger. We tend to like things BIG. Why didn’t God do something BIG to prove that Moses was sent by Him. Surely, we think, God should have sent a band of angels with Moses to proclaim who he was, but no God just told Moses to tell them, I AM HAS SENT ME.’ HUH? In our minds that seems woefully insufficient. But many times that’s the way that God acts. In most cases God does not send the miracle until we have the faith.

At first glance I AM may seem like a poor introduction, but if we look more closely at it God is saying, Tell these people I AM whatever you need. God is the ultimate chameleon lizard. A chameleon changes his skin tone to blend in with his surroundings, but God changes to become what we need for the moment.  I once heard a preacher say that if we had needed an education then God would have sent us a teacher. If we had needed electricity God would have sent us an electrician, but our greatest need was salvation so God sent His Son.

When Jesus came into this world it was without much fanfare He was born in a lowly stable among the animals. There were angels who came announcing His birth, but they only appeared to a small group of shepherds. God does not want us to believe only because of the miracles we see because that is not true faith. I forget who made this statement, but it is very true, “A faith that is based on miracles is a weak faith.” When we only believe what our eyes see then we are gullible enough to believe anything. Our eyes can and will fail us, but if we continue to listen to the “still, quiet voice” of God then we will never be led astray. I pray for you all that you are not like Peter who took his eyes off of Jesus, and began to drowned until the Lord lifted him; but that you be like Stephen who even when he was being stoned to death for his belief in Christ did not take his eyes off of Jesus.

Father, I thank You for giving me the examples in Yor Word that You can and do use seemingly insignifant people to further Your Kingdom, and I ask that You remind me when I feel like a nobody in this world that You can still use me for Your purpose. I am only a stranger in this world called by You to show others Your love and grace. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
