Love, Life and Light
“Luke 2:10 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid ; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people ; 11 for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.”
Christmas has come and gone, and now we wait for New Years with the parties the resolutions and all the grandeur, but before we jump in to 2011 let’s take one more look back at 2010, December 25th to be specific.
Christmas is a time when almost everyone talks about Santa and his reindeer; the elves and their toys. Some people (maybe a lot) also talk about Jesus Christ born in Bethlehem. God come to earth, so that we could have peace and joy.
The birth of Jesus Christ was without a doubt the greatest event to ever happen in human history. The entire world, Christian and non-Christian, is centered around this miracle that took place some 2,000 years ago. Whether you say A.D (Anno-Domini) and B.C (Before Christ), or CE (Common Era) and BCE (Before Common Era) it is still divided by the birth of Jesus Christ! No other birth in history has had so great an impact on humanity!
There have been a lot of great men that have impacted how we live by their life, but there has never been anyone who has changed eternity simply by His birth other than Jesus Christ. What exactly does the birth of Christ mean to you?
Jesus’ birth to me means three things. God showed us His love through this birth. Man was wicked and evil on his own. I like the way John Newton said it in the great hymn,” Amazing grace, how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me.” We were beyond hope the battle was lost Satan had his victory, but then Jesus came in the flesh and everything changed. If you don’t feel like shouting right now when you think about that then you don’t understand what God did, and the love He showed.
The second thing God did with the birth of Christ was to give us His life. Jesus was God in the flesh, and when Jesus was born God was saying, “Here I am. Watch how I live my life then you will know how you should live your life.”
Finally, when Jesus was born God gave us His light! Light so we can see in the darkness of this world. Let me use an illustration here, Let’s say you were deep in the woods miles away from your destination. You know where you want to go, but you cannot see how to get there, so you are in a hopeless state. You are lost because you cannot tell where you are therefore you don’t know which way to go. But, if you had a light that you could use to find your bearings you could find your way home. We were in a dark world, and while people knew where they wanted to go they could not tell how to get there. Into this situation God sent us Jesus Christ, His Son, to light the way back to Him!
I believe that is the true meaning of Christmas. God showed us through the birth of Christ what it means to truly love someone, how a life that is pleasing to Him should be lived, and how we can find our way back to Him. That is the gift that God gave us with the birth of Jesus, and we should celebrate His gift every day of the year!!!

Father, I thank You for giving me the gift of Jesus, and I ask that You would me to always remember and celebrate this gift, and give me the courage to share Your gift with others, for it is not only a gift for me, but an offering for all men and women. In Jesus’ name, Amen
