The Authority of Scripture
II Timothy 3:16, “All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness ; 17 so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.”
The Apostle Paul was writing his farewell letter to his young apprentice Timothy. He was encouraging Timothy in hopes that he would take the message he had been hearing from Paul and bring it to others. Paul, being a more mature Christian, realized that after his departure Timothy might get confused, bewildered about what he should do next; and Paul was trying to reassure Timothy that he would be alright if he only stayed with the teachings of God.
I was in a situation like this once. About 2 years after becoming a Christian my pastor, who had baptized me, was called by God to another church. I was all alone, and I wasn’t sure what to do. I seriously considered giving up on church. But, I remembered that as Godly a man as my former Pastor, Rev. Marshall Raye, was that his teaching did not come from him. The teachings that he gave came from God through the Holy Spirit and His Word.
As long as we have the Word of God then we have access to the heart of God, and we can learn from Him. (A lot of people use this as an excuse to skip church altogether, They say-I have my Bible I can read it on the lake, etc. and learn from God just as well as church. There are 2 problems with this way of thinking 1) Most people never open their Bible once they get to the lake or wherever, 2) We are commanded in Hebrews 10:25 not to forsake gathering together.) Yes, God can teach us in many ways, but the local church is one of His chosen ways and if we forsake it we are in a way forsaking God.
The Word of God is our main instrument from which we learn about God, and from it we are able to teach others about Him, and gently correct them when they do wrong. I urge you to take time from your day and sit down with God’s Word so that you can be taught and strengthened by Him.

Father, I thank You for the precious gift of Your Word, and I ask that You would help me to hide it’s truth’s in my heart that I would learn from You, and strengthen other’s. In Jesus’ name, Amen
