Exodus 12:13, “The blood shall be a sign for you on the houses where you live; and when I see the blood I will pass over you, and no plague will befall you to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt.”
This is the time of year that we celebrate Easter, or more appropriately called Resurrection Sunday, because we are not celebrating a cute, litttle bunny with floppy ears. We are celebrating the Risen Savior, Jesus Christ!
But before the Resurrection Sunday there was the crucifxion that took place on Friday, the day that we call Good Friday. I’ll be honest and say that the term Good Friday always struck me as weird when talking about the crucifixion of Jesus, but a few years ago it struck me that if there had nexer been a Crucifixion Friday then there would have never been a Resurrection Sunday. So, indeed it is a Good Friday in fact it is a Fabalous Friday.
It was that Friday on the Cross that Jesus, the Son of God, shed His Blood for you and me. The Old Gospel hymn “There’s Power in the Blood” asks and answers the question “What can wash away my sin? Nothing, but the blood of Jesus!”
A lot of people shy away from talking about the sacrifice of Jesus, and the shedding of blood. I believe that’s one reason why we remember Peter Cottontail more on this holiday than the One who died for us.
Some parts of Christianity are not pleasant to think about. The results of a sinful life; the real, physical torment of hell and of course the sacrifice that it took to save us from sin. It may not be pleasant to think about Jesus being beaten beyond recognition, or being nailed to the cruel cross; but that’s what it took for our sins to be washed away.
The blood may seem gorry, and the crucifixion may appal you; but without them we could not be saved. Hebrews 9: says, 19 For when every commandment had been spoken by Moses to all the people according to the Law, he took the blood of the calves and the goats, with water and scarlet wool and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book itself and all the people, 20 saying, “THIS IS THE BLOOD OF THE COVENANT WHICH GOD COMMANDED YOU.” 21 And in the same way he sprinkled both the tabernacle and all the vessels of the ministry with the blood. 22 And according to the Law, one may almost say, all things are cleansed with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no forgiveness. 23 Therefore it was necessary for the copies of the things in the heavens to be cleansed with these, but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these. 24 For Christ did not enter a holy place made with hands, a mere copy of the true one, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us; 25 nor was it that He would offer Himself often, as the high priest enters the holy place year by year with blood that is not his own. 26 Otherwise, He would have needed to suffer often since the foundation of the world ; but now once at the consummation of the ages He has been manifested to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself. ”
You may be appalled, and your sense of decency may be shocked when you think about the sacrifice and the shed blood of Jesus, but itis no more appaling to us than our sins are to God. So, go ahead and call Friday a good day because I consider it a fabalous day. It is the first day that the Lord’s redemptive plan started.

Father, I thank You for the Blood that You gave from Your Son, Jesus Christ, to rescue me from my sinful heart, and I ask that You help me remember that my sins are more shocking and apalling to You than the Blood is to us. In Jesus’ name, Amen
