Yes, You Can Ministry

"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." – Philippians 4:13

Get moving!

Exodus 35:29,  “The Israelites , all the men and women, whose heart moved them to bring material for all the work, which the LORD had commanded through Moses to be done, brought a freewill offering to the LORD. “

The Lord gave the command through Moses that all Israel should bring material for the work of the tabernacle. God did not demand that each person should bring anything that they did not have. He simply commanded that they all bring what they have to complete His tabernacle.

Today, many people get the idea that what they have to offer God will not be sufficient, so they end up bringing nothing. God can take anything that we bring and use it for His glory.

Years ago when I first became a Christian I did not think that I had anything to offer the Lord that would please Him. I had been raised in a way that was very much emphasizing my physical attributes; then in 1988 I had a car accident that left me permanently, partially paralyzed. I have limited use of the right side of my body. I cannot walk very good, so I use a wheelchair to help me at times.

In 1993 I felt the Lord calling me to the mission field, and I thought to myself, “What can I do on mission trips?” But, I knew in my heart that God was calling me. So, in the summer of 1993 I went on my first trip, and I was amazed as I saw God work through me what can only be described as miracles. That summer I fell in love with mission work, and came to a better understanding of how great our God is. Now I go on mission trips as often as I get the chance.

On my fourth trip in San Antonio, Texas God did something that still gets me choked up when I think about it. As I said I use a wheelchair sometimes to help me get around. On the San Antonio trip we were working mostly with immigrant children, and one day we went to the park where the kids were playing. I must admit that I was feeling a little sorry for myself as I sat in my wheelchair watching everyone else play basketball or baseball with the kids. Then God did something amazing!

One of the kids was standing looking at my chair, and he asked me a few questions about why I was in it. Finally, he felt comfortable enough to ask me if I could take him for a ride, so I did. He got in my lap, and off we went. Then he asked if he could push me, and I said yes. After a minute I asked him if he wanted to ride solo. I got out of my chair, and he got in it. He called one of his friends over to push him, and before long there was a line of about 10 kids waiting to get in my wheelchair, and go for a ride.

I said all of that to say this. Whatever you have to offer, even if you think it’s the most useless thing in the world, offer it to God, and He will make it more beautiful than you can imagine.

Let me end with one of my favorite passages of scripture. 1 Corinthians 1:27-29, “but God has chosen the foolish things of the world to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to shame the things which are strong, and the base things of the world and the despised God has chosen, the things that are not, so that He may nullify the things that are, so that no man may boast before God.”
