Holy Clothing
Leviticus 16:23, “Then Aaron shall come into the tent of meeting and take off the linen garments which he put on when he went into the holy place, and shall leave them there.”
Aaron the High Priest for the Israelites was commanded by the Lord, through Moses, the clothing that he was to wear when he made the annual sin offering.(See Leviticus 16:4) This was to be a yearly sacrifice to make atonement for the sins of Israel that had not been remembered by them in the regular sin sacrifices that were made, but it was to cleanse them from any sin that they had commited which had not been forgiven. Perhaps this is where some denominations get the idea of Priestly attire, i.e robes, sashes and so on. But the clothing that Aaron wore before the Lord is, I believe, not as important as what he did after the offering, sacrifice was made.
After the sacrifice before God was made Aaron was commanded by God to leave the Holy clothing in the tent of meeting before the Lord. This is, I believe, a Messianic prophecy that foreshadows the sacrifice that Jesus made to cover our sins!
Jump ahead some 2,000 years, and we see what Jesus, our High Priest, did for us. Jesus, the Christ, was crucified on a cross to atone for the sins that we commit before God. Jesus covered our sin debt to God by offering His body as the final and satisfactory offering to God.
After the sacrifice of Jesus was completed we read in John 20:6, “And so Simon Peter also came, following him, and entered the tomb ; and he saw the linen wrappings lying there,” Jesus, the High Priest, fulfilled the command that was given to Aaron by God that he should leave his sin clothing before God!
In Jesus we see the total fulfillment of the Law of Moses!

Father, I thank You for giving the prophecies in the Old Testament that prove that Jesus Christ was the High Priest that covers our sins completely, and I ask that You would help me to see the evidence that points to Jesus as the fulfillment of Your Law. In Jesus’ name, Amen
