My uncleanness was on Him
Numbers 19:13, “Anyone who touches a corpse, the body of a man who has died, and does not purify himself, defiles the tabernacle of the LORD ; and that person shall be cut off from Israel. Because the water for impurity was not sprinkled on him, he shall be unclean ; his uncleanness is still on him.”
I love reading the Old Testament; especially, the Mosaic laws. They speak so loudly about the grace of God. Take todays verse; it says that anyone who has become unclean and not followed the prescribed steps that were ordered by God will remain unclean, and God’s commands on what it takes to become clean were not simple. If a person were to forget one step the entire process He went through would be for naught. His uncleaness would still be on him. The results of being unclean were being separated from your people, and not being able to come into the presence of God. It was excruciating! Even the most hardened criminals today get to intermingle and socialize with other inmates, but that was not so with the unclean; they were in total isolation! On top of that they were separated from God! Without following the steps ordained by God they were without Him! God takes cleanliness very seriously!
I don’t neccesaily mean clean with soap and water. That may be extremely important to your friends, and other people near you; but God concentrates on the cleanliness of your heart more than anything. We know this from what God told His Prophet Samuel when he annointed David as King of Israel. I Samuel 16:7, “But the LORD said to Samuel, ‘Do not look at his appearance or at the height of his stature, because I have rejected him; for God sees not as man sees, for man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.’ “
God still demands a clean heart, and if we do not have a clean heart then we will be separated from God forever. When Jesus came to this earth He did not do away with the perfect requirements of God. Jesus said in Matthew 5 that He did not come to abolish the Law, but to fulfill it, and that none of the Law would be done away with until all was fulfilled. Jesus Christ yelled from the cross that it is finished. Signifying that the perfect requirements of God were met in Him, and it is through Him alone that we can be made clean and spend eternity in the presence of God!
