You get what you pay for?
Numbers 22:18, “Balaam replied to the servants of Balak, ‘Though Balak were to give me his house full of silver and gold, I could not do anything, either small or great, contrary to the command of the LORD my God.’ ”
A lot of people today get in the same mind-set as Balak, king of Moab, that we can buy God’s favor. They may make a huge donation to the church, and think that it assures the blessing of God on their life. Some people think to themselves that God needs their money, and because they gave it that assures that they will get God’s blessing. God does not work that way; He does not need our money, and no matter how much or how little we give it cannot buy a blessing from God.
Remember the story that Jesus told in the temple about the widow’s mite.(Mark 12) The poor widow came and gave all that she had in faith that the Lord would meet her needs. She trusted God beyond human reasoning, and she emptied herself for Him.
God’s blessings are not open to the highest bidder, but they are reserved for those who have the faith to believe they will recieve His blessings when they trust in Him. Blessings cannot be purchased for a million dollars when we approach God. He owns the cattle on a thousand hills, so no amount of money can secure a blessing from God. Only faith can do that! Faith that He will safeguaed His children no matter what this world may become.
It is only by our faith in Jesus that we can find true peace, and be guaranteed the blessings that come from God!
