Draw close to Him
Deuteronomy 29:29 “The secret things belong to the LORD our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our sons forever , that we may observe all the words of this law.”
There is an old saying that the Lord works in mysterious ways. That saying is true; at times we can not unserstand how or why God does what He does. Isaiah 55″8-9 says 8 “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” declares the LORD. 9 “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways And My thoughts than your thoughts. “ Gods thoughts and actions are so far above our own that our feeble minds would explode if we tried to grasp even 1/1000 of what He considers. Take for example my case, In 1988 I had a severe car wreck, and some of the best neurosurgeons in the country said that there was no hope for my survival, but people were praying to God that I would live, and today 24 years later I am writing this devotion. There is no medical reason why I should be alive, but God in His sovereignty spared my life.
We cannot understand everything about why God does what He does, but there are things that God reveals to us that we can know. God does therefore hold us responsible for the things that He has revealed. The first thing that we are responsible for is the knowledge that God came to this earth in the flesh in the person of Jesus Christ. God showed us the love that He has for all mankind when Jesus came to point us back to God the Father. Our main responsobilty is to recognize what God has done for us and praise Him for sending Jesus to save us from eternal separation from Him. We realize how awesome God is, and what a great gift He has given us as we read His Word; in verse 9 of this chapter God tells us, “So keep the words of this covenant to do them, that you may prosper in all that you do.” Our command given by God is to follow the covenant that He established with us, but we cannot follow His covenant if we do not know what it says. Therefore, we must read His Word, and let it permeate our bodies if we are too “prosper in all that we do.” Many times people use the excuse that I can not understand all the things of God, so they think there is no reason to “waste” time reading His Word. Time that is spent in God’s Word is never a waste, but the more time we spend in His Word the more that will be revealed to us. There are things about God that we will never understand on this earth, but the more time we spend in His word the more He will reveal to us; and the distance between what we do understand and don’t understand will become smaller and smaller.

Father God, I thank You for sending me Your revelations in the Bible, and I ask that You would encourage me to draw closer to You through the reading of Your Word. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
