Yes, You Can Ministry

"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." – Philippians 4:13

I trust Him

Joshua 2:17, “The men said to her, “We shall be free from this oath to you which you have made us swear, 18 unless, when we come into the land, you tie this cord of scarlet thread in the window through which you let us down, and gather to yourself into the house your father and your mother and your brothers and all your father’s household.”

The story of Rahab, the harlot, is one of my favorite stories in the Bible. I think it’s very interesting to note that a prostitute is among only 4 women mentioned in the lineage of Jesus. It doesn’t matter to God what you may have been involved in before you encountered God. He will only judge us by what we do after coming to the knowledge of Him.

Rahab was justified by God because of how she treated and cared for those who were sent by Him.God saw the courage that she had to protect the spies, and thereby she treated His name with honor; she was consequently blessed because of her heroism. The spies told Rahab that if she would tie a scarlet ribbon to her window then her house would be spared when the armies of Israel invaded.

As I read this story I get a clear picture of what happened to the children of Israel in Egypt. When God sent the death angel to destroy the firstborn of Egypt God told the Israelites that if they would put the blood of a lamb above their doors the death angel would pass over their house, and everyone inside would be saved. As in the case of the children of Israel Rahab could look out of her window, and see and hear the destruction that was going on around her; but she knew through the promise of God that none of the terrors she saw would enter her house because she was protected by her faithfulness to God!

As Christians, we can see and hear the destruction going on in the world around us; but we have the promise of God that none of that destruction will enter our house!

Jesus told the parable of the two foundations in Matthew 7:24″Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them, may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock.25″And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house ; and yet it did not fall, for it had been founded on the rock.26″Everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not act on them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand.27″The rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house ; and it fell -and great was its fall.”28 When Jesus had finished these words, the crowds were amazed at His teaching ; 29 for He was teaching them as one having authority, and not as their scribes.

Jesus did not say that if we would trust in Him we could avoid the storms altogether, but He said if we trusted in Him then we could weather the wind and rain. One of my favorite promises of Jesus is found in John !6:33,”These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage ; I have overcome the world.” Jesus reminds us that we are going to see destruction around us, but it will not affect us when we trust in Him!

Father God, I thank You for giving me protection because of my faith in You, and I ask that You would encourage me to stay strong when I see this destruction. In Jesus’ name, Amen
