Hearts of wax
Joshua 5:1, “Now it came about when all the kings of the Amorites who were beyond the Jordan to the west, and all the kings of the Canaanites who were by the sea, heard how the LORD had dried up the waters of the Jordan before the sons of Israel until they had crossed, that their hearts melted, and there was no spirit in them any longer because of the sons of Israel.”
Joshua was chosen by God to lead the sons of Israel into the Promised Land; a task that he was totally incapable of, but with the help of God he was able to do much more than he thought possible. When the kings near him heard what God had done they were “scared out of their socks”.
They were truly filled with the fear of God because they had heard of what He had done for His children, and they knew that “they didn’t want any of that”. I believe that it is impossible for anyone to know the mighty power of God, and not realize that they have met their match.
No matter who the person is that God chooses to use; if they are filled with His Spirit then they automatically get the respect of others. The Jewish leaders feared the power of Jesus that they concocted false charges against Him to have Him executed by the Romans.
One of my favorite stories in the Bible is that of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego. Daniel chapter 3 tells the story of how they were thrown into a furnace by King Nebuchadnezzar because of their refusal to bow before his image. When the king saw that God had saved them he honored God by publicly acknowledging that their God was the true God.
In Acts 4 Peter and John were arrested for preaching that Jesus was God, but when they were brought before the High Priests they recognized a power in these men that they had not seen before. Acts 4:13 says, “Now as they observed the confidence of Peter and John and understood that they were uneducated and untrained men, they were amazed, and began to recognize them as having been with Jesus.”
Even though they knew that Peter and John were “ignorant” they recognized the power that they had through God!
If you are filled with the Spirit of God then there is no one that you should fear because the power that God gives will be recognized!

Father God, I thank You for giving me Your power, and I ask that You remind me of this power when I am asked to give an account for You. In Jesus’ name, Amen
