Caleb-like confidence
Joshua 14:13, “So Joshua blessed him and gave Hebron to Caleb the son of Jephunneh for an inheritance.”
Caleb was a man who believe I would have really liked. When Moses sent spies into the Promised Land to see about it, 10 of the twelve brought back a bad report; only Joshua and Caleb told Moses that they could take the land because God was on their side. Caleb said in Numbers 13:30, … “We should by all means go up and take possession of it, for we will surely overcome it.” Caleb saw the giants that were in the land, like the others, but unlike the others he saw who was on their side, God! And he knew that God would give them the Land He promised regardless of what was against them! When you recognize that God is on your side you get a confidence that cannot be put out no matter what your eyes see.
The confidence that God gave to Caleb only grew overtime as he saw God deliver on His promise. Now when the nation of Israel had conquered the Promised Land; Caleb was once again filled with the confidence of God when he came to Joshua, and said give me this land that I deserve.
Caleb understood that he had been faithful to God, and God rewards those who have been faithful to Him. Hebrews 11 says, “1 Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. 2 For by it the men of old gained approval… 6 And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.”
It is not arrogance on our part to expect to be rewarded by God for faith in Him. Our confidence merely shows the strength of our faith in God! God has promised to bless those who believe in Him, and faithfully do His work.
I believe it is pitiful, and a sin, to doubt that God will bless you if you obey Him! God desires to bless those who are faithful to Him! The Bible reminds us, Psalms 37:3 “Trust in the LORD and do good ; Dwell in the land and cultivate faithfulness. 4 Delight yourself in the LORD ; And He will give you the desires of your heart.” When we delight in Him, and remain faithful it pleases Him to bless us!

Father God, I thank You for reminding me through the testimonies of others that You are faithful to bless those who remain faithful to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen
