Victory in Jesus
Judges 5:31, “Thus let all Your enemies perish, O LORD ; But let those who love Him be like the rising of the sun in its might.” And the land was undisturbed for forty years.”
After the sons of Israel defeated the Canaanites the Lord gave them temporary peace in the land. Deborah the judge of Israel and Barak, the captain of Israel’s armies, sang a song of praise to God. They sang to proclaim and remember what God had done for them; not in order to puff themselves up, but in their song of praise they remembered that all had been done could not have been done without God.
They remembered, and reminded, that all those who trust in and love God will never be defeated, but will shine in His glory. They understood, and wanted to remind the sons of Israel that God had given them this victory, and as long as they stayed faithful to God then they would be filled continuously with His power. This is a reminder that we all need from time to time. Isaiah 40:31 says, “Yet those who wait for the LORD Will gain new strength ; They will mount up with wings like eagles, They will run and not get tired, They will walk and not become weary.”
As human beings we tend to forget that victory can only be won through the power of God! God gives us the victory, and we think that the victory is ours, but Jesus reminds us, in the same way that Deborah and Barak reminded the Israelites, that victory can only be won through Him. In Matthew 28:18, “And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.” The victory is His, and unless we stay in Him we will not share in it. Jesus also said in John 15:4,”Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, so neither can you unless you abide in Me.5″I am the vine, you are the branches ; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing.“(italics mine)
Unless God gives us the victory we will face certain defeat, but through Him we WILL HAVE THE VICTORY!
