My God, why have You forsaken me?
Deuteronomy 1:6, “The LORD our God spoke to us at Horeb, saying, ‘You have stayed long enough at this mountain.’ ”
When the Israelites were delivered by God from their Egyptian captors they went to Mount Horeb, where Moses first encountered God, to worship Him. After staying there they departed for the Promised Land. The Israelites were in the presence of God, and they did not want to leave, but God knew that what He had prepared for them was far better than anything they were experiencing at the moment.
They were experiencing an intimate fellowship with Him, and it must have seemed ludacrous to them to leave His side, but God commanded them to go and receive His Promise.
Many times we are like that. We come into worship where we feel the presence of God stronger than ever, and it seems crazy for us to leave that presence to go go into a world where the presence of God cannot be felt by us as strongly. In these times we must remember that God is just as present in the valleys of life as He is on the mountain of worship. Jesus Christ told us when He departed for Heaven to sit at the right hand of God that He would always be with us.
When we get in the valley and do not “feel” God as strongly as we did on the mountain then we must remember that God has not left us, but He is always there with us no matter what. Our inability to “feel” God can be used for our advantage because it is during these times that we must focus our hearts and minds on God in order to discover that He is always at our side.
The mountain of God is a magical place! Disney has no idea what a magical kingdom is; only God can give us the splendor that we desire! But the true Magical, Majestic Kingdom of God cannot be found if we stay on the mountain. We must go through the valleys if we are to find the Promised Land!

Father, I thank You for never leaving me alone in the valley, and I ask that You help me remember that You are with me always even when I don’t feel You. In Jesus name, Amen
