Victory in Jesus
Judges 20:30, “The sons of Israel went up against the sons of Benjamin on the third day and arrayed themselves against Gibeah as at other times.”
The sons of Israel and the sons of Benjamin were having an internal battle. The sons of Benjamin were among the tribes of Israel(God’s chosen), but they had gone astray from following the Lord wholeheartedly. This is a reminder to us all that there has always been, and will always be disagreement’s between God’s people! When we have disagreements within the family of God it is always best to seek the Lord, and make sure that we are on His side; instead of being puffed up, and assuming that God is on our side which is what the Benjamites did.
The sons of Israel went against the Benjamites, and the Bible says that 40,000 of their men were lost in battle in the first two days of fighting. I know that they were weary and tired of losing man after man, so they brought up the priest of God to inquire. The Lord told them that they should continue the fight because the third day was the day He had chosen to make them succesful.
I am aware that as humans we often get tired and disheartened after facing loss on top of loss, but it is at that those times when we should seek the Lord to discover if we are on His side. Too many times people assume that we are one the right side because our human pride stops us from admitting that we made a mistake. When we get tired of losing then we tend to throw our hands in the air and just give up.
However, when we are certain we are on the Lord’s side, and we inquire of Him then He will give us the strength to continue in the battle. The Christian journey is a long one, and there are battles that we will lose; there are times when we will feel like giving up! I know; I’ve been there, but when we feel like giving up then we must seek the Lord, and He will give us the strength to continue fighting for Him.
When I was in college I faced a time of despair, but a friend of mine sent me a note to encourage me, and even now almost 20 years later these words encourage me when I’m tired.
When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
When the road you’re trudging seems all uphill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest, if you must, but don’t you quit.
Life is queer with its twists and turns,
As every one of us sometimes learns,
And many a failure turns about,
When he might have won had he stuck it out;
Don’t give up though the pace seems slow–
You may succeed with another blow.
Often the goal is nearer than,
It seems to a faint and faltering man,
Often the struggler has given up,
When he might have captured the victor’s cup,
And he learned too late when the night slipped down,
How close he was to the golden crown.
Success is failure turned inside out–
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,
And you never can tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems so far,
So stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit–
It’s when things seem worst that you must not quit.
It’s my prayer that you realize not every battle will result in a win, but if you never give up you will ALWAYS be victorious!
