Failures
Ruth 4:18, “Now these are the generations of Perez : to Perez was born Hezron, 19 and to Hezron was born Ram, and to Ram, Amminadab, 20 and to Amminadab was born Nahshon, and to Nahshon, Salmon, 21 and to Salmon was born Boaz, and to Boaz, Obed, 22 and to Obed was born Jesse, and to Jesse, David.”
The lineage of King David, which is also the family that Jesus came from, is a very colorful one. Perhaps it’s not the line that we might not expect that God would use to bring His Saviour into the world.
Perez who was the great, great, great, great, great-grandfather of David had an auspicious birth. Perez was the son of Judah, on of the twelve sons of Jacob, which we might see as part of God’s plan to keep His promise to Abraham that the Savior would come from his family, but like anytime you are dealing with humans there will always be an unexpected turn of events. Perez was the son of Judah, and Tamar, his son’s widow,(Genesis 38)
However, God used their indiscretion to bring about His purposes. Many times we think that because we come from a family, or we ourselves have a past, that is not “socially acceptable” that God cannot use us for His glory, but our history is not important to God. He only cares about what we do after we have come to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. Take the example of the Apostle Paul before he met the Lord Jesus Christ he was an adamant opposer/persecutor of the church, but after his transformation on the road to Damascus Paul became the greatest defender of the faith.

Our past does not matter to God, but our past can be used for His glory if we will turn and seek Him!
