Heart of the Covenant
1 Samuel 4:5, “As the ark of the covenant of the LORD came into the camp, all Israel shouted with a great shout, so that the earth resounded.”
The Philistines had defeated Israel; according to the Bible it was a pretty bad beat down. About 4,000 Israelite soldiers were killed. After they regrouped, Israel knew something had to change. They could not continue getting beat like that, so they called in the “Big Gun”. They sent and called for the ark of God. They knew that if they had the ark then they were unstoppable, but they forgot one thing. The ark of God does not work like a “magic 8 ball”! If your heart is not right before God then the ark is just a pretty decoration, and the Israelites soon found that out as the Philistines beat them again; and captured the ark of God.
The Israelites were all excited when the ark came into their camp because they thought certain victory came along with it. Skip ahead until the days of Jesus, and we once again see how people can get excited about an event, but they are not prepared for the greatness before them.
In the Gospels we read how the people of Jerusalem shouted to Jesus when He came to their city, John 12:12, “On the next day the large crowd who had come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, 13 took the branches of the palm trees and went out to meet Him, and began to shout, “Hosanna ! BLESSED IS HE WHO COMES IN THE NAME OF THE LORD, even the King of Israel.”
Just like the warriors did earlier, the people of Jesus’ day were only excited that He had come to them because of the promise He brought. They were not interested in changing, they were only interested in winning. Jesus did not come just to make us winners, but He came to change our hearts, and when our hearts and minds are aligned with His then we cannot lose!
If we do not let Him change our hearts and minds then we cannot win no matter what we do. Any formula that we have, or any prayer we say will fall short because only He can make us victorious.
Matthew 7:21, “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter.22″Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles ?’23″And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; DEPART FROM ME, YOU WHO PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS.’

Father God, I thank You for promising me victory in everything when I come to You, and I ask that You help me change any false worship I do for You. In Jesus’ name, Amen
