Failure is not the end!
I Samuel 8:7, “The LORD said to Samuel, “Listen to the voice of the people in regard to all that they say to you, for they have not rejected you, but they have rejected Me from being king over them.”
The children of Israel knew that Samuel was getting feeble; he did not have much longer on this earth, so they went to him, and asked that he appoint a king over them. They wanted to be like the nations around them; isn’t that usually where most trouble begins? We start trying to”fit-in” and our personal values get compromised.
God had told the Israelites that He did not want them to be like the other nations, and He had proven over and over again that He would be with them, but still they wanted to “like everybody else”. Maybe they were scared that they would get ridiculed, or even attacked, unless they assimilated.
When we reject God fear is always a BIG reason. We may be scared that people are going to laugh at us, beat us up or take what we have. I’m not saying that people may not ridicule you, or even that you won’t go through some hard times if you choose to follow. But, no one can take anything from you if God has given it to you.
In Jesus’ prayer for believer’s He said; John 17:12, “While I was with them, I was keeping them in Your name which You have given Me; and I guarded them and not one of them perished but the son of perdition, so that the Scripture would be fulfilled.” Fear that we may lose something we have been given from God is never a valid reason for rejecting His call.
Another reason why the word of God is rejected is financial gain. Sometimes in this world we see that people around us who seem to reject the commands of God getting things that we want, or think we deserve. After following Jesus for three and a half years Judas became disheartened because he was not getting what he thought he should. Judas saw the Romans around him getting richer while the followers of Jesus were not, so he went to the Chief Priests to ask what he could get for abandoning God. In the end Judas did receive riches for his betrayal of Jesus, but he soon discovered that money could not satisfy like following God does, and after his betrayal he hanged himself out of guilt.
When we choose to reject God, and His word we are not condemned by Him. Instead, because of His love for us God forgives our rebellion, and He still reaches out to us with His loving arms to bring us back to Him. Luke 23:34, “But Jesus was saying, “1 Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing.”
It doesn’t matter if, or how many times, we fail God. His loving-kindness for us will NEVER FAIL!
