His Great Name
I Samuel 12:22, “For the LORD will not abandon His people on account of His great name, because the LORD has been pleased to make you a people for Himself.”
The people of Israel had gone to Samuel, and demanded that he appoint a king over them. God told Samuel that He did not want them to have an earthly king, but because of their persistence God allowed Samuel to anoint a king. However, God told them through Samuel that they were disobeying Him by doing this.
Many times in our lives God will allow us to do things that He does not want simply because He loves us more than we can understand. God did not create us, nor does He want us, to be robots who blindly obey. A robot cannot love in the way that God desires to be loved, so He gave us a choice to follow Him; or we can reject His desires to go our own way.
This is why we see so many men and women who begin following God stumble and fall in ministry. They see the entrapments of this world that can look so good to the human eye, and eventually they begin the slide that pulls them away from God.
As humans it is only natural that we desire the things that we see on this earth, but God has much greater things for us if we will only remain faithful to Him! Even though we may pull away from Him; He will never leave us or abandon us because He will not reject the people He created!
