Power in the Blood
Leviticus 14:31, “…So the priest shall make atonement before the LORD on behalf of the one to be cleansed.”
Whenever I read verse like this I’m reminded of one of my favorite hymns, “There’s power in the blood!” God told Moses that when a person is infected with the condition of leprosy that a blood sacrifice had to made in order to cleanse that person. The affected person must bring their sacrifice before the Lord, and the priest must sacrifice it before the Lord and then place some of the blood on the person for them to be cleansed. To some people the thought of being smeared with blood is repulsive, but it is only the sacrificial blood that can cleanse them.
All of us, no matter who we are, have been infected by the disease of sin. Romans 3:23 says, “All have sinned, and fall short of the glory of God.” There is no one who is clean before God; just like the person with leprosy we have all been infected by the disease of sin. The Bible tells us that no one is clean without the blood of Jesus. And we are told in Hebrews 9:22, “… without shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins.”
That idea of being washed in the blood of Jesus, God’s ultimate sacrifice, may seem appaling to some, but it is the only way to cleanse us of the disease of sin. Just like the Israelites needed the blood of a lamb to cleanse them of leprosy, and make them able to stand before a Holy God, so we need the Blood from the Lamb of God to make us right before God!

Father, I thank You for providing the Lamb’s blood to make me clean before You. In Jesus’ name, Amen
