Taking care of His own
Joshua 13:33, “But to the tribe of Levi, Moses did not give an inheritance ; the LORD, the God of Israel, is their inheritance, as He had promised to them.”
Could you imagine watching your friends and neighbors being given everything they wanted while you sat by knowing that you would never receive anything that they were getting. The tribe of Levi was in this situation; they had suffered through the wilderness just like everyone else, but now that they were in the Promised Land they watched while everyone else was given a home, but they got nothing! I know I would get mad if it were me; my humanity would come bursting out, and I would scream, “Why do they get special treatment!”
That’s what my human side would think, but my Spiritual side would see(I hope) that they were not getting special treatment, in fact the Levites were coming out on the better side of this bargain. The entire nation of Israel was commanded to look after them, and they were given all the benefits of land ownership, without any of the responsibilities. The Levites were given, by the Lord, a portion of the offerings and sacrifices brought to Him. Moses was commanded by God to give the Levites a portion of the animals from each tribe, and the Israelites were commanded to allow them to live wherever they desired. They had it made! The only requirement for them was to remain faithful in God’s service. One of the sayings in the Marine Corps is, “We take care of our own.” The Marines have nothing on God! He truly gives only the best for those that He called.
However, like all good things that God begins man messes up when he tampers with it. Over the years the love that God showed was manipulated by man, and used as a way to keep certain “undesirable” people down. So, God came down to earth in the form of Jesus Christ to show people that there did not have to be a division between God and man. What God started as a way to keep His people concentrating on His business was manipulated by man to say that some people were superior to others.
However, God came down, in the form of Jesus, and He broke up that separation that man had created. He demonstrated on the cross that God loves ALL mankind, and there are no superior people in the eyes of God!

Father God, I thank You for loving me so much that Your Son died on a cross to take away my sin, and when I start getting a superior attitude please remind that Jesus shed His blood for all mankind. In Jesus’ name, Amen
