Yes, You Can Ministry

"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." – Philippians 4:13

Wow is God!!!

Joshua 6:16 “And it came about at the seventh time; when the priests blew the trumpets, Joshua said to the people, ‘Shout, for the Lord has given you the city.”

I’m going to age myself a little bit here, but I remember when the rock group Van Halen came out with the album 1984(possibly the greatest Secular album of all time) in the year, can you guess, 1984. I was a young teenager at the time; one of the songs on that album was “Jump”. They were encouraging young people to get excited; if you have ever been to a Van Halen concert, or any concert, then you know that people at concerts do not need extra incentive to get excited.

I believe that is a trait that we as a church should take from the world, in fact; I believe we should give it to the world. We serve the King of Kings, the Lord of Lords! We are FIREPROOF! Satan and his demons can mess up our day, but they cannot touch our lives. Sometimes, we allow small insignificant problems seem like gigantic problems that we cannot overcome. One of my biggest pet peeves is Christians who live life in “defeat mode”. They face problems, and they act like puppies who role over and play dead. GET WITH THE PROGRAM PEOPLE!!! There is no problem that Jesus cannot handle. He beat death; if He can take death on and win, He can handle our little measly problems.

The question is not whether or not Jesus can handle the problems, the question is are we going to take Jesus at His word “These things I have spoken to you that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage, I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)  Jesus overcame the world which means there is no problem that you can face that He has not already beaten!!!

But, we like the Apostle Peter take our eyes off of Him, and look at the problems around us. (Matthew 14:28-30) But, even in his doubt and fear Jesus rescued Peter. Just in the same way that God will save us, but if we keep our focus intently on Him then He will have no need to save us because the “problems” will disappear before we start sinking.

I believe, the reason why we focus on the problems in front of us is because we forget the victories behind us. As human beings we have very short memories. We walk over the walls that have fallen in front of us, and then we see the “giants” in our way, and get scared. Do we really think that if God brought the walls down He cannot floor the giant?

I am not going to share my entire testimony (there’s a link to it on the side), but God has done miraculous things in my life. He has literally brought me back from death, and so now I am keenly aware that there is no problem I can face that He cannot handle. But, if I focus on the circumstances instead of the Savior then I, by myself, am easily overwhelmed. As human beings we say “woe, is me”, but we should say “Wow is God”.

I’m sure as the children of Israel looked at the walls around Jericho they felt inadequate, but God took the walls out of their way, and allowed them to walk over them.  I’m sure as the disciples looked at Jesus on the cross they felt inadequate and defeated, but God took Jesus off the cross and raised Him. You may feel defeated as you look at your problems, but God can take your problems, and use them to lift you higher. Then, as you get lifted higher you are able to look around and see more clearly what God has done, and you will get excited about what He has done and what He has promised to do.

“But in all things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us” (Romans 8:37”)

  1. That was a great message! I like what you said:

“I believe, the reason why we focus on the problems in front of us is because we forget the victories behind us.” How true that is! As soon as the Red Sea of our problems closes again we forget that we were brought through safely and that our enemies were destroyed! I have no idea why we constantly make or problems bigger than our God, because the evidence of his love for us is all through our lives. We are indeed MORE THAN CONQUERORS!

    • Marianne,
Thank you for your kind words of encouragement. It is always encouraging to hear from people that read my blog, and to hear that the words given to me by the Lord help others.
Like you I do not understand why we have such a difficult time remembering the victories that we have had in Christ.
You made reference to the Red Sea, and I think that we are a lot like the Israelites. After God delivered them through the Red Sea, out of the hands of the Egyptians, and Moses went up on the mountain to receive the Word from God the Egyptians almost immediately built a golden calf so that they could worship. A lot of times in our life we “build” our own idols, so that we can have something tangible as if the evidences of God’s past victories in our lives were not enough.
Thank you for reading my blog, and leaving your thoughts; also I thank you for sending me a link to your blog.
