Yes, You Can Ministry

"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." – Philippians 4:13

I am blessed!

Genesis 27:38, “Esau said to his father, “Do you have only one blessing, my father ? Bless me, even me also, O my father.” So Esau lifted his voice and wept”.

The story of how Jacob stole Esau’s blessing from their father Isaac is a story of deceit and trickery. Not only of son against his father and his brother, but also of wife against husband and mother against son. Read the 27th chapter of Genesis, and you will understand that Rebekah played a bigger part in the deceit than Jacob. After we read the story we cannot help but ask ourselves how can God bless someone like Jacob who commits such a blatant, horrendous sin? However, the lesson from Jacob and Esau is not found in the answer to that question.

The answer is found in the question posed by Esau. He asked his father Isaac if he only had one blessing that he could give. Why could he not give a blessing to both he and his brother. At first look this seems like a good idea. Bless both of your sons so that each will get something of value. In the human eye that seems perfectly fair. However, God does not share or split-up His blessing.

Just as Jacob had only one blessing to give God has only one blessing to give, and that comes through His Son, Jesus Christ. Many people know John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.” It says “whoever believes in Him…”; not whoever fill in the blank… We can search and plead with God, but in the end there is only one way to get His blessing.

Acts 4:12 “And there is salvation in no one else(Jesus Christ); for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved.”

Many times we try to plead our case  before God, and our case may look good in human terms; we gave away all of our money to the poor, we lived among the homeless to comfort them, we visited the hospital everyday to comfort the dying. We deserve to go to heaven, RIGHT! If God is a fair God then it’s only fair that I go to heaven, but that’s where we mess up. God is not a fair God, at least not by our standards. If God were a fair God and we all got what we deserved then listen to what we’ve done and what we deserve. Romans 3:23 says, “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,” just like the acts committed against Isaac and Esau by Jacob and Rebekah everyone on the earth has committed horrendos acts against God, but in His love God still blesses us. Romans 6:23, “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Do you want a fair God that gives you what you deserve, death and hell; or do you want a loving God who looks beyond what you deserve and sees the blood of His Lamb covering your sins? I want the loving God not the fair One?

Father, I thank You for loving me enough to send Your Son to cover my sins, and I ask that You would always remind me that love is the way you have chosen to bless me; give me the strength to bless others in the same way. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
