It is enough…
Exodus 4:12, “Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what to say.”
Moses was called by God to complete His mission, but Moses was leary about his calling. He tried to make excuse after excuse before God; the Israelites won’t believe me, the Egyptians won’t believe me, and then my favorite one-I’m not good enough.(Is there anyone who thinks they are good enough to serve a Holy God, if there is then they are the only ones who are not worthy.)
God had appeared to Moses and had given him signs that he should perform when the people doubted as to whether or not God had sent him. Miracles(I do believe that God is still a God of miracles.), when God works miracles they are always in order to point to Him and reveal His glory. Miracles are never done by God to magnify any human being; neither can any human being work a miracle at his desire. Miracles are given by God through the Spirit so as to glorify Him.(click here to read 1 Corinthians 12:4-11)
Moses was talking directly to God, and he sais, I’m scared. Like any loving Father God said to him, I know you are scared, but I promise I will be with you. That reassurance from God was enough for Moses. I know he still had his doubts about his calling when Pharaoh would not listen, and after God delivered the Israelites from Egypt. However, every time he had doubts, and when the Israelites grumbled against him I imagine his mind went back to that talk he had with God as he was getting ready for this “search and rescue” mission. A smile must have come over his face as he heard these words again, I will help you… Moses knew that whatever he faced whether it was a tyrannical Pharaoh, or tired and dissappointed Israelites, God was with him.
Just hours before Jesus ascended into Heaven he gathered with the disciples. They had been severly shaken when Jesus was crucified, and their faith began to disintegrate. Then Jesus came back, Halelujah!! But He told them He was leaving again. I’m sure that they were just as dismayed as Moses, maybe even more so. But Jesus told them not to worry because He would send them a helper, the Holy Spirit, to empower them for all He had told them. Just as with Moses they knew that God would always be with them whatever they faced, and it was enough for them. Today, in this world that is hostile towards God and His people we also hear Him saying, I will always be with you. Is that reassurance going to be enough for you.
Acts 1:8, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
